About PeriPAN

PeriPAN provides real-time psychiatric consultations for guidance on mental health diagnosis and management. Clinicians who treat pregnant and postpartum patients may ask about behavioral health assessments, concerning symptoms, and psychiatric medications. The UT Health San Antonio PeriPAN hub offers specialty training opportunities, free CMEs to providers, and vetted referrals to share with their patients and families.

Enrolled OB/GYN providers may call the PeriPAN hotline at 1-888-901-2726 Option 3 then 2 to consult with a reproductive psychiatrist or psychologist within 30 minutes of their call. PeriPAN staff are available on the phones Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. You can leave a message anytime.

Provider Highlights

Sarah Wakefield, MD

PeriPAN Medical Director

Dr. Wakefield is a board-certified adult, child/adolescent, and forensic psychiatrist. She attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas and a general psychiatry residency at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport. Dr. Wakefield completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry and an additional fellowship in forensic psychiatry also at LSU Health before joining the faculty at Texas Tech University School of Medicine in 2014. She has served as the Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Services and since 2016 and the Medical Director of Medical Ethics until 2020. She is currently chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Texas Tech University School of Medicine and is active in providing psychiatric diagnostic and treatment evaluations for families, for adolescents in the juvenile justice system, and for pregnant or post-partum mothers.
