PeriPAN provides real-time psychiatric consultations for guidance on behavioral health diagnosis and
management. OB/GYN providers may ask about behavioral health assessments, concerning
symptoms, and psychiatric medications. The UT Health San Antonio PeriPAN hub offers specialty training
opportunities, free CMEs to providers, and vetted referrals to share with their patients and
families.
Maternal mental health conditions are the most common complications of pregnancy and childbirth. They affect 1 in 5 perinatal women and are the leading underlying cause of pregnancy-related death in the United States. Women who get treatment can and do recover.
